Art Director Sayed Dawood Sayed Celebrates The Golden Jubilee Year Of His Career In Silver Screen
At the tender age of 16 years, Sayed Dawood Sayed, one of the senior most Art Directors of the Indian Film Industry today, had started his career in the World of Silver Screen, as a Studio sweeper. It was the luckiest day of his life, when for the first time in his life he had seen his favorite artist Dilip Kumar, at the Mahurat of Saira Bano’s film Saaz Aur Awaaz, in Roop Tara Studio, where he had joined as a sweeper of the studio. In the same studio, he started to work as the background painter and became one of the most sought after art director, with his hard work, passion for work and above all his creative talent.
As the background painter, Sayed Dawood Sayed, has 30 big star cast movies to his credit, including Bairag (Dilip Kumar, Saira Bano), Jwar Bhata (Dhamendra, Saira Bano), Des Pardes (Dev Anand, Tina Munim), Aan Milo Sajna (Rajesh Khanna, Asha Parekh), Geet ( Rajinder Kumar, Mala Sinha), and Khilona ( Sanjeev Kumar, Mumtaz) to name the few.
The innovative and imaginative art director has shown his artistic brilliance in the movies like Love Marriage, Lashkar, Juari, Teri Payal Mere Geet (Govinda, Manisha Koirala), Meri Biwi Ka Jawab Nahin (Akshay Kumar, Sri Devi) and Guddu (Shah Rukh Khan, Manisha Koirala). As the art director he has done some Marathi, Gujarati, Rajasthani and Kanada films as well.
Now he has the distinction of celebrating the Golden Jubilee of his career in the World of Silver Screen. Even at the age of 66 he is very fit and fond of showing his artistic superbness in his new assignments. His current assignments include two Bhojpuri films, Bal Jigni and Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, and Kadar Kashmiri’s ambitious venture Die-ana, base on the tragic death of People Princess Diana and producer O. D. Khanna’s maiden venture Love In Kashmir, being directed by Kadar Kashmiri. He has also created and erected sets for TV Serials, like Pakeeza and Suhaag (Hindi), Nari Tu Na Haari and Manku Pagla (Gujarati) etc.
The award winning Art Director, Sayed Dawood Sayed, has one more rare achievement of the rare kind. Five Top film personalities, who have been honored with Dada Sahib Phalke Awards, have praised him and his art to great extent, in these words :-
